BARBARA  PARENT

 I recieved a BA in art from Rhode Island College in 1980.  Realizing I still had so much to learn, I spent six years working in various production potteries honing the skills I would need to produce my own pots.  In 1987, I moved to Chatham on Cape Cod.  The goal was to produce and sell pots in this busy tourist town. In 1994, while working at a motel part time, I opened Main Street Pottery in the basement shop of the Colonial Building on Main Street.   In 1999, when space opened up on the street level I moved the shop to that new space.
 
Customers entering the shop can watch pots being made.  This gives me the opportunity to explain the process and answer questions.  Hopefully my shop is a comfortable space to spend some time and learn about pottery.


MY  POTS 

I use a toasty brown stoneware and gloss glazes that produce soft subtle colors.  All my pots are made on a traditional foot-powered treadle wheel.  Pots are fired to 2280 degrees Farenheit.  From my first introduction to clay, I have always been drawn to functional pottery.  My goal is to produce everyday pots that you will enjoy using to prepare and serve your meals.
